Eating Disorder Treatment – Psychologist Central Coast NSW

Our esteemed colleagues Janene England and Alex Corcoran both hold the ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential. This credential is awarded to a select group of clinicians, in recognition of their advanced training, skills, and experience in the treatment of complex eating disorder presentations.

To receive this credential, clinicians need to demonstrate that they have met several key criteria, as well as provide a written commitment to continue to undertake ongoing eating disorder specific professional development activities throughout the year.

Janene England and Alex Corcoran have trained across many models of treatment over the decades of their respective professional careers, and take an integrative approach to helping people in their recovery. Please see the ‘meet our team’ section of our website for further information.

Most people have heard of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) but many do not know of the Maudsley approach. This approach includes parents in the treatment and is one of the approaches that Janene England practices (when clinically indicated, and when it is viewed as the most appropriate form of treatment for the individual).

This therapy method was originally formulated by Christopher Dare and his colleagues at the Maudsley Hospital in London in 1985. Formerly proposed as a method for the treatment of anorexia nervosa in adolescents, it was devised as a therapy that would occur in the home environment with therapeutic supervision by a trained professional. This method is often highly effective – particularly with adolescents suffering from an eating disorder for a relatively short period of time.

The Maudsley Family Approach can be applied to the following:

  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
  • Binge Eating Disorder
  • Childhood Obesity
  • Adolescents
  • Older Patients
